The bridge burning has begun.
by sparrowdown ini was feeling particularly hopeless about the whole jws being assholes thing and sick to death of pretending so ....
i rang my sister and told her that i no longer believe jws have the truth and the phone went silent, when i asked her to say something she just said if that was the case then she would have to hang up on me and then proceeded to indeed hang up..
so i texted her back immediately with fu..

Stay strong and stop doing it to make other people happy. It should be how you feel. No surprise she is cutting you off. Even my family even though I don't speak out against the religion, treat me differently if we ever meet up a family functions. I feel since my parents are now both gone we are all slowly drifting apart. It was my parents that kept us all together with family gatherings and visits etc. -

What is the most bizarre counsel you received as a JW, from a JW?
by Funchback inthere were many addressed to me.
for example, i once had a sister tell me i was gambling because i liked playing skill crane (the machine where you have to try to pick up prizes like stuffed animals) at the arcade.
i then fired back a her: "you saw the r-rated movie 'backdraft.

Did anyone ever hear the stupid story about the kid in a hall who was sleeping on the floor between a row of seats? He woke up crying because his Barney plush toy woke him up and ran out of the hall laughing?
I never heard of this story but it sounds like a variation of the Smurf doll urban hoax story. I read it on here years ago. It goes something like this, "Smurf doll was sitting on one of the seats at the KH when about half way through the study, the Smurf doll got up, said enough of this shit and walked out". I recall the poster saying that at least that Smurf doll had more sense then the dubs to sit through the BS. lol
Well, the manager (a JW) refused to eat any of them. But one of the other workers there (also a JW) would take a knife and scrape the Christmas icing off of the cookies and then eat them (I guess that made them less pagan).
Yeah they are so inconsistent with what they practice. I knew one elder that said if you offer me Christmas candy I would eat it. I recall a story where my ex was out in service took out a holiday chocolate and started to eat it and a sister had a shit hemorrhage. So inconsistent.

One that comes to mind for me is when some would not eat holiday candies, chocolates foods etc. Once again the Watchtower being wishy washy on the subject where two dubs would read the same article and get two different meanings. This led to infighting amongst the rank and file dubs. The elders fall back line is always, well if it should make someone stumble then maybe you should do it. -

I now know I should never have being baptized as I did not understand all the ramifications of being a baptized JW. If I would have waited till I got out and worked in the world and educated myself it would have been different. -

Once a JW has their hooks in you they can be harder to get rid of then an old stray dog. You have to learn to be firm and tell them NO I am not interested. -

Did anyone see Jackson state "celebrating Christmas not a df'ing offence"?
by Crazyguy ini have seen posts on several you tube sites stating that jackson said during his rc testimony that jw's don't shun, celebrating christmas is not a disfellowshipping offence, birthdays are ok and ones doesn't have to agree with jw doctrine.
i have read most of the posts on other threads while and after his testimony but never read any of this?
did he really say these things or is someone on the net just stirring up some bs?.

Typical double speak from the dubs. He didn't say yes or no. This statement "That is not my understanding" is a lawyers way of evading the question. I recall when I was prepped for a hearing on a labor issue at work. The employers representative said rather than say yes or no just say that is not my understanding. That way they will not keep asking you questions in regards to that line of questioning. That way after the fact when questioned he can say I did not say that. -

The folly of Watchtower's theodicy. Or, why would an all-powerful and all-wise God need to justify his sovereignty through suffering?
by Island Man inwatchtower says that evil and suffering exist at present to vindicate jehovah as being the only one qualified to govern; to bear witness to man's inability to govern himself independent of god and under satan's direction.
the claim is made that the questions raised by satan regarding god's motives as universal sovereign can only be answered by allowing humans to see the evil and suffering that results when man lives independent of god's protection and direction.. watchtower and jws seem to think that this is the best theodicy in the world.
but there are some serious flaws in it.. 1. such a theodicy suggests that all perfect and intelligent creation, up until the advent of adam and eve, did not know god and his ways well enough to be confident that his motives as universal sovereign are pure.

This didn't make sense to me as a five year old child and still doesn't make sense to me.

Psychology: Sick of Elder Low tone slow paced talk
by Aprostate Exam innow after 21 years in professional psychology/humanities, i love talking to brothers that adopt a slow pace in speech, and low tone of voice when they deal with the rank and cold un-associated ones.
my mirroring their present state in personality seems to psych them out for a bit.
i then tap into my fast injection of logical sense, that throws them off.

I probably have missed reading a post of this but are the elders trained in their ministry school to deliberately talk slowly? -

I like that 90's Watchtower with the old people on it and it that says this generation will not pass away and they have all since kicked the bucket. That sums up the Watchtowers generation teaching in a nut shell. -

Sounds like more bad advise from the dubs JC. I know my sister was told to go back to her abusive husband as she did not get a "scriptural" divorce. Even though she is blinded by the organization, I had to give her created she stuck to her decision. She told one elder that told her to go back, "you didn't have to live with him".
